Obituary

Edgar “Duke” W. Martell, Jr. 81, of Greenport, New York passed away peacefully on September 8, 2019. He was born on October 4, 1937 to Annette and Edgar W. Martell, Sr. in Jamaica, Queens. Duke was raised in Bellerose, New York. His family moved to Massapequa Park when he was thirteen years of age. Duke attended Massapequa High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954 at the age of seventeen. After serving 4 years, he received an honorable discharge. In 1959, he married Joan Green. They lived in Queens, New York and in 1966 moved to East Setauket, New York where they raised their family. Duke was employed by Consolidated Edison from 1964-1992, and retired at 55 years of age. In 1992, he relocated to Greenport, New York where he enjoyed all aspects of the coastal community. Duke was an avid sports fan and a diehard New York Mets fan. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in numerous extracurricular activities. He was a loving, devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his three children, Cheryl (Kirk) Goss, Dawn (Lawrence) Tarricone, Michael (Kerry) Martell and his eight grandchildren, Ashley, Hillary, Christopher, Bryan, Kevin, Carley, Matthew and Brendan.
