Aunt Lilly was a truly remarkable woman, loved and admired by many. She and Uncle Joe Signorelli represented the essence of the "Greatest Generation". Children of Italian immigrants, Aunt Lilly and Uncle Joe were married in June 1942. A few months earlier, in October 1941, Uncle Joe was drafted into the army just prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was part of the 8th Army Air Corps, a B-17 bomber unit stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Aunt Lilly said Uncle Joe’s unit was on high alert for deployment, and after seeing him the day before, she returned to visit him the next day and his unit was gone. She said, overnight, everything was gone, including vast amounts of equipment and supplies, and the place, “looked like a ghost town.” That was the last time she would see him for 4 years as he was stationed in England for the duration of World War II.

Aunt Lilly and Uncle Joe always had the highest regard for the military and celebrated every Veterans Day with tremendous pride. Aunt Lilly and Uncle Joe were married for over 75 years, and were a couple that our entire family really admired. We will carry their memory with us forever. Love to all, The DeFrancisci Family
