If my wife Kim was here, she would love the thought of a tree being planted for she knew she was in Tom's thoughts when she passed as Tom is in my thoughts right now.

I've mentioned this before, but when my wife Kim was dying in the hospital, Tom was struggling with cancer. The family didn't know what to say to me, perhaps just nervous that they would say the wrong thing. But not Tom. He called often, almost every day her last week. Somehow his calls gave me great strength and came to mean quite a lot. Prior to this, we hadn't spoke in some time. A rare blood disorder and cancer are unusual gifts no on should receive, yet Tom's cancer softened him into a sensitive man and I am so greatful for his reach out and response back then. More recently, I visited him his last week. One evening, I told him how much those calls meant to me. He smiled and squeezed my hand. We both welled up. My heart goes out to Debbie, Matt, Crystal, Tom & Derek. I know they will be sad for awhile, but I hope they can soon turn that sadness into gratitude for surely they were lucky to have had such a great dad and husband as I feel by being his brother.
